Dr. Sudeshna Goswami
Founder & Director, Holding Hope Centre for Speech & Hearing
Where Legacy Meets Listening, and Science Meets Soul
Dr. Sudeshna Goswami’s journey as a Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist is one of inherited purpose, professional rigor, and profound compassion. As the founder of the Holding Hope Centre for Speech & Hearing originally in Guwahati, Assam and now in Greater Noida, UP, she carries forward a legacy that blends clinical excellence with cultural empathy—transforming lives through the power of voice and connection.
A Legacy Rooted in Service and Sound
The roots of Dr. Goswami’s mission trace back to her mother, Late Dr. Rina Barua Goswami, a pioneering ENT specialist in North-East India. In 1985, Dr. Rina began her work in Guwahati, long before speech and hearing rehabilitation were widely understood. Her clinic became a refuge for families seeking more than treatment—they found understanding, dignity, and hope.
Dr. Rina Barua Goswami came from the illustrious Barua family of Gauripur, sharing bloodlines with two of Assam’s most celebrated cultural figures: Pramathesh Chandra Barua, the legendary filmmaker and actor, and Pratima Barua Pandey, the iconic folk singer who brought Goalpariya folk music to the national stage. Through her, Sudeshna inherited not only a spirit of service but also a deep cultural sensibility—one that sees communication as art, identity, and belonging.
Her familial roots are deeply intertwined with India’s cultural and academic renaissance. Her grandfather, Late Mahesh Chandra Deva Goswami, was an eminent scholar who studied under two of India’s greatest minds—Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (Philosopher & President of India) and Humayun Kabir (renowned educationist and writer). This scholarly lineage was further enriched by her grand-uncle, Ambikagiri Rai Chowdhury, a celebrated poet, freedom fighter, and spiritual voice of Assam. Sudeshna’s father was also a respected All India Radio Assamese singer, and a social entrepreneur working in Assam’s tribal and marginalised areas and together, her parents fostered an environment rich in music, expression, and empathy. This heritage gave her a natural intuition for the emotional rhythms of human interaction—qualities that would later become central to her therapeutic philosophy.
Academic Foundations for Holistic Care
.Dr. Goswami’s educational journey reflects her dedication to a multidisciplinary approach. She earned her Bachelor’s in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) and followed it with an M.Sc. in Psychology to deepen her understanding of the emotional and cognitive layers behind speech and language. She further pursued an MBA in Hospital Administration to bring organizational insight to service delivery.
This combination of clinical skill, psychological insight, and administrative acumen empowers her to deliver care that is not just effective but also inclusive, ethical, and accessible.

The Birth of Holding Hope
In 2015, Dr .Goswami founded Holding Hope Centre for Speech & Hearing—a dream shaped by her mother’s pioneering work and her own vision for integrated, family-centered care. Originally established in Guwahati, the Centre has grown into a full-scale multidisciplinary rehabilitation hub, now in Greater Noida providing:
- Speech & Language Therapy
- Occupational & Physical Therapy
- ABA-based Behaviour Therapy
- Special Education
- Psychological Services
- Art, Dance, Music and Yoga
- Community Integration & Parent Training
- Tele-rehabilitation for remote and underserved areas
At its core, the Centre is built on values passed down from her mother and family: dignity, consistency, empathy, and belief in every individual’s potential.
Culturally Responsive Practice
Dr. Goswami’s approach to therapy is deeply informed by her cultural heritage. She incorporates music and songs into phonological work, uses traditional rhythms to improve pacing and fluency, and designs therapy tools that reflect the local context and languages. “Communication is more than function—it’s identity,” she says. “We must honour a person’s world if we want to help them find their voice.”
Advocacy, Outreach, and Impact
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Goswami is an active advocate for inclusive healthcare in Northeast India. She:
- Trains rural health workers and educators in early intervention.
- Leads workshops for parents and young therapists.
- Collaborates with ENT specialists, neurologists, and psychologists.
- Builds awareness in tribal and tea garden communities through outreach and tele-health.
She believes that access to therapy should not depend on geography or privilege—and works every day to close that gap.
The Spirit of Holding Hope
The name “Holding Hope” reflects her mission: to hold hope for those navigating uncertainty, to empower families who feel overwhelmed, and to offer every child and adult the tools to thrive.
Through her work, Dr. Sudeshna Goswami honours her mother’s legacy of healing, her family’s cultural legacy of connection, and her own promise—to ensure that no voice is left unheard
